It makes you believe things that aren’t true
As your closed eyes reflect images of love and happiness
When in truth as they open, tears can’t help but fall
Not from sorrow or pain, but something so simple as the human being
What we have caused each other and ourselves
What we have fooled ourselves to believe
With all the tissues to wipe our cheeks and caress our faces
It is impossible to hide the pain of our hearts
And yet, through it all, the cloud not filled with gray
Though the sky has only seen black
Casts a shadow that is different from the others
Lighter than the rest, we are forced to see the inevitable
That there will always be a chance of hope
As our souls fend for our living
It sees the lining in the cloud
And smiles as though the rain had never poured
And the lightning had never struck
As though we had never heard thunder
It cracks a smile
And with that small sign of hope
We are restored to happiness
We are given a bit of peace
As though we were born with a silver spoon served on a silver platter
Our laughter seizes the moment and shines through
Never wanting to let it go
It doesn’t.
